An Emotionally Intelligent Manager Is A Personal Styles Yogi

Yoga is designed to help one's mind and body become more flexible, supple and adaptable. An emotionally intelligent manager does mind yoga by becoming more aware of people's personal styles so s/he can flex her/his conversational styles to address the individual tendencies of others' styles.

I call it "The Platinum Way" vs. "The Golden Way."

You know the "Golden Rule:" Do onto others as you would have them do unto you. That's a pretty self-centered approach that assumes everyone is like you.

Sadly, they are not. Life would be so much easier and boring if they were.

"The Platinum Rule" goes something like, "do onto others as they find most valuable and motivating to them, based on their values, desires and tendencies."

You focus on what turns the other person on to stir e-motion -- energy in motion to create action.

We all know the delight of having someone pay attention to, and respond to our own particular desires. In the relationship realm it's called falling in love.

And we all know the consequences of failing to continue to be attentive to the other -- its called divorce. Divorce is essentially a message that says, "I think you no longer care about me. I have given up on you. Goodbye."

In the work place, the equivalent to falling in love is engagement, alignment, commitment and easy performance.

People emotionally divorce themselves from their work when they believe (it may or may not be true, but we all act on our beliefs for better, for worse, in sickness and in health until death do us part) the company -- as exemplified by a manager that no longer cares about them.

A manager is the real and symbolic representation of the organization -- for better or for worse.

An emotionally intelligent manager can identify and respond to others' personal styles to produce desired results.

Here is a quick-and-incomplete description of the four basic personal styles...

High-Doers: The High-Doer person is direct and decisive. S/he wants you to get to the point. Briefly explain to her/him what you want done. Be clear about letting them know what's in it for her/him. Start rambling (in their minds) and they will stop listening to you.

The key here is the manger has to move quickly, while at the same time making sure the high-doer completely understands the task or goal. High-doers often miss the details and set off down the wrong track.

No train-wrecks, please.

High-Interpersonals: This type person enjoys engaging in two-way conversations. S/he must understand the big picture before moving forward. She wants the engagement. S/he wants to be stimulated to get her/him talking.

No long-boring conversations, please. Keep it moving.

High-Security: A person with a High-Security style wants you to get to know her/him -- and to know you. She focuses on the relationship and wants to make sure s/he can trust you. There is a tinge of paranoia that you might take advantage of her/him. S/he will be open to be influenced by you because s/he likes and trusts you.

Be really careful to stay connected and respectful of her/him. S/he is watching you closely.

High-Rationals:? Things must make sense on their terms. S/he wants you to convey and explain information and agreements in a clear, logical, linear fashion. S/he must have, and understand, all the details. S/he wants to explore in detail. You must give ample time to go over the details -- sometimes 2-3 times until s/he is satisfied that s/he "gets it."

Do not get impatient and try to gloss over the details. S/he will turn off.

4 Tips for doing the yoga dance with different styles:

Be flexible and resilient. Breathe.

An emotionally intelligent manager learns her/his own personal style.

Learn how to recognize and respond to others' styles.

Adapt your conversations to the personal styles of others to get to agreement.

How flexible are you?

How to Decide Whether to Do Yoga Teacher Training

Deciding to do a Yoga Teacher Training is a significant investment of both time and money. Some things to consider as you debate whether to train:

- Do you have the time? If not, your yoga might become a source of stress and your training won't be enjoyable

- Do you actually plan to teach? If so, training is a must. If you just want to deepen your practice, workshops or retreats might be a better option

- Are you ready to take your own practice to a new level? Most trainings are physically intensive. If you're sick or injured, it's probably not the best time to embark on this journey.

- Are you ready to deal with some of your own personal demons? Yoga trainings have a way of bringing you face-to-face with your own fears and insecurities, which is wonderful and illuminating if you're ready and have the time to process everything that comes up.

Yet ultimately, the decision to become a yoga teacher is a highly personal one and different for everyone.

I found yoga at a crisis point in my life. Or some might say - yoga found me. I was determined to find something to channel my energy into positive things; things that would uplift and empower me. Yoga was just that. The practice immediately resonated with me - it challenged my strength and flexibility and made me sweat a lot, but more than that, if left me feeling rejuvenated and balanced unlike any other workout. If those are the feelings you have after a yoga work out, yoga teacher training might be for you too.

Though I was initially drawn to the purely physical aspect of yoga, I realized that I had just scratched the surface of a much deeper, more profound, and utterly transformative practice. After having practiced yoga for only 3 months, I knew I wanted to become a yoga teacher. There was no way that I couldn't not explore this practice in more depth for myself, but also to be able to share it with others through teaching.

I did a training that was multi-faceted. You learn all of the standard asanas (poses), the alignment, and how to sequence them to create a well-rounded balanced class. You will also learn about the breath, how it can inform one's alignment, how it can indicate one's emotional and mental state, and how it can be used as a tool to take you from an experience of the physical body to an experience of the subtle body, and eventually to a meditative state with the feeling of oneness and union (Samadhi). Using the breath, you will learn various techniques (pranayama and kriya techniques) to achieve various states - from simple tranquility to Samadhi (bliss). In addition, you will learn many tantric meditation techniques - many of which involve visualization to help you feel the unified state of Samadhi. All of these techniques are grounded in science and what we know about relaxation and the brain, etc. In the advanced 300 hour teacher training, you also learn hands on adjustments. Being confident about adjusting your students enhances your teaching so much! Hands-on adjustments are also very useful to use when teaching private yoga lessons.

Overall, throughout the course of yoga teacher training, you are transformed. On some level a transformation does happen. For me, I realized that yoga is not about a workout or strength or flexibility. It is about being able to sit with myself in peace. Nothing more, nothing less.

Exercises and Sexuality

Exercise to feel sexier.

"One problem is that when people begin a fitness program, they do not see results immediately, unlike many other activities," says Dr. Peter Jensen, an Olympic coach. (Learning the piano is very difficult, but everyone is at least able to play a few notes of "Over the Rainbow" within a few hours of practice.) Looking at the athletes while practicing their sports, its difficult not to notice how unbelievably attractive they are.

This attraction is not due only their talent or their plastic beauty, it is also due to the confidence they exude, the winning attitude they have forged over the years and the steel determination which is pushing them to excel. According to Jensen, the power of mind over the body plays a determining role on how we evolute and the direction we will choose in life, often even to the detriment of genetics and our education. He added that most athletes have developed an ability to invest in the present moment and to be opened to others. We need only look at the current performance of the goalkeeper of the Canadians, Jaroslav Halak, to be convinced.

Not really necessary to be the best.

Of course, some people seems to have an innate talent for their sport, but their is no (superhuman) genes discovered yet which can predict if a person will one day win a gold medal. Every athlete is progressing step by step. He is determined and improves gradually with time with training. In order not to lose your determination, it is important to integrate the fact that developing abs like Brad Pitt or Jennifer Garner will not be happening overnight. The vast majority of us will never climb on a podium to present our most beautiful medalist smile to the world, but we can all get a endorphin, a hormone that makes us feel good and increases our desire and libido.

Some "sex exercises".

As a downhill ski slide, a yoga session or a weight training session makes us sweat a good deal and gives us the required drive to made love regularly has many health benefits. Of course, it's nice, but it also helps to reduce stress, cholesterol and the risk of cardiovascular disease. It increases blood flow, strengthens the immune system and releases Oxycontin, the hormone nick named cuddle. A small note about an increased in the blood flow: In passed researches it shows that it causes a level of sexual arousal for men as well as for women and that women orgasms ed become more frequents and more satisfying. So as the Nike slogan says (Just do it).

Spring is the best time to find the ardor and sexual forms in each of us!

Get rid of our couch potato side and work to become and stay seducing, strong and in good health. What could be better than getting training and advices directly from an Olympic coach:

Did you know...?

1. A study of the University of Texas has shown that women after 20 minutes of cardiovascular training were sexually aroused quicker by watching erotic films than those who did not exercise.

2. The men who train three times per week reports having better sexual performance and more frequent sex, according to another study from the University of California.

3. Sex is a fun physical activity that helps to burn calories. According to the book The Ultimate Sex Diet, a 30 minutes energetic sexual activity, can burn between 150 to 350 calories and, in addition strengthen butt muscles, the thighs muscles and the abdominals.

Thoracic Spine Pain - Five Tips to Beat It!

Thoracic spine pain affects so many of us, and with an increasingly sedentary lifestyle this can only get worse. So often, back pain solutions and exercises are aimed at the more easily mobilized lower back, but this article is specifically about ways to relieve upper back pain.

Hunched over a desk or in front of a computer, or hours spent driving can all contribute to that stabbing discomfort between the shoulder blades. Thoracic spine pain is very often caused by bad posture, especially while seated, leading to imbalances in the complex muscle, joint and ligament structures in that area. Paying attention to correct posture is helpful, but making sure all the muscles are toned and the vertebrae correctly aligned should bring about better posture automatically. Here are five of the best approaches to beating this limiting condition for good...

1. Chiropractic. If the thoracic pain is severe or chronic and you need a kick-start, chiropractors can sometimes offer instant relief in this area. However, chiropractic should be used like a service for your car - it needs to be done, but in between services, you need to take responsibility and keep your spine in good condition yourself.

2. Light weight training. The thoracic spine is harder to mobilize than the lumbar spine, so certain specific exercises need to be done. I have found that a one-arm row using a dumbbell or other improvised weight works wonders for getting the muscles loosened and improving blood flow to the area. Do a couple of sets in the mornings as a warm up before stretching.

3. Yoga. Many of the yoga postures help to relieve thoracic pain. The simple seated forward bend can be a great relief, as can the shoulder stand and plough positions, which extend the thoracic area in a way that's hard to do with any other method.

4. Inversion tables. These wonderful inventions are a godsend for the lower back, but can be just as good for the thoracic spine too, reversing the crushing strain of gravity that can contribute to all these conditions. Go get one!

5. Hanna Somatic Movement Education. This fantastic way of balancing the entire body is so incredibly gentle you might think it's not doing much, but it is perhaps the most complete system for keeping the body pain-free. Find out more about it at the link below.

Of course diet is also a contributing factor, and to learn about foods that cause inflammation and alkalising foods that reduce inflammation is one of the best things we can do in our search for perfect health. Add to that the knowledge of your Ayurvedic body type and how the Ayurvedic doshas relate to food choices, and you will be well on the way to super health!

Simple Yoga Postures to Help You Lose Tummy Flab

Many of my women friends, especially those with babies, say that losing fat in the tummy area is the toughest. I am sure; each one of us has struggled to lose tummy flab. It seems that when one gains weight, even a small amount, it all seems to go to the waist area. And, when one loses weight, this seems to be the most problematic area from where the flab just refuses to go.

My advice to all women wanting to lose tummy flab is to try Yoga. I know you expected aerobics, strength training, or Power Yoga as a possible solution. However, I am talking about Yoga, the way it has been practiced since its origin thousands of years ago in India. Yoga is a complete exercise system, which builds strength, immunity, takes care of mental stress, and gives a great shape to your body.

Specifically for tummy flab, yoga is extremely beneficial. Yoga is gentle on all organs and joints of the body and can be safely done even by women who have undergone C-sections. A simple regimen could begin with loosening exercises of the joints. It is very beneficial to do Surya Namaskar, which exercises almost all the muscles in the body and builds strength especially in the core trunk area, tummy, and the spinal region. As you progress, you can increase the number of Surya Namaskars done everyday.

You could follow this with asanas or postures like Trikonasan or triangular posture; Pavanmuktasana or the posture which helps you relieve gas; Bhujangasana or posture like a cobra; and many more asanas which help tone the tummy area.

You could then proceed to the Pranayam, which are asanas that regulate one's breathing. Anuloma Viloma (alternate nostril breathing) and Kapalabhati (breath cleaning), if done regularly help regulate your respiratory system, and those suffering from allergies would feel a remarkable change. Kapalabhati is extremely effective in helping one lose stomach fat and fat around the abdominal organs. You can actually feel your tummy tighten! There are other Pranayams, which can be done depending upon your requirements.

Always round up your Yoga routine by meditation and chanting which help cool the body down and provide deep relaxation. Finish with Shavasana, which relaxes each part of your body. You emerge refreshed, relaxed, and energized to face the world.

Yoga is best done on an empty stomach and early in the morning. But, it can be done later in the day as well. Like any other exercise routine, stick with the schedule for at least a couple of months to see tangible results. I can vouch for its effectiveness, personally.

I do suggest that you join a Yoga class initially to understand the correct techniques of doing the various asanas or postures. Later, you can do them at home. Trust me, Yoga can take you along the path of good health mentally and physically, and you will see that jelly belly disappearing too!

Yoga Exercises As Physical Therapy

Yoga Exercises Are Good For Stress Relief

Most people tend to hold in patterns of tension arising from everyday cares and worries, bad posture or lack of exercise. These patterns make you feel stiff and unbending, and directly interfere with your movements. Inflexibility within your body can in turn affect mental flexibility, and you can become stuck in thought as well as in action.

Regular stretches not only free the body, allowing you to move easily, but can also help you to think and act in a less restricted way.

By stretching your muscles, tendons and ligaments, you can make them stronger. The lengthening actions will help you to stand and walk taller and more gracefully.

Your joints will work better as they will be able to operate through their full range of movement, and the muscles will work more efficiently due to the extra blood supply they'll be receiving.

Chronic tension and contraction of the body impairs blood flow, and stretching improves this, giving added vigor and vitality.

Real Benefits of Yoga Exercises and Positions

Stretching is not a new idea: for centuries it has formed an essential part of the physical exercises that are one aspect of yoga. These exercises, including breathing techniques and meditation, have also become highly popular in the West in recent decades. There are yoga classes almost everywhere, and the best way to learn about these practices is from a trained, supportive teacher.

One of the particular benefits of yoga stretches derives from the slow-motion movements, together with the holding, of the postures, or "asana". These do not tax the heart, but help to relieve tension and strain, and conserve energy. Never overdo a movement, or strain to stretch - you should enjoy it. Practiced regularly, the yoga stretches will improve not just your flexibility, but the overall functioning of your whole system.

You will find that yoga stretches and exercises demand a certain quality of mental concentration, to help steady the body and focus the mind. To help you engage your mind, concentrate on the rhythm of the movement plus the harmony of your breathing. Other techniques can also be adopted, such as working with your eyes closed or counting the length of your breath. As you become more proficient, try these methods to increase the benefit of the exercises.
