How to Become a Yoga Teacher

Teaching is a noble profession and one that any individual should be proud to be involved in. It's even better when the topic you're teaching is one that you love. It's so much easier to convey your own enthusiasm regarding the subject matter when you really have a feel for it yourself. Maybe that's why so many yoga practitioners are looking into how to become a yoga instructor. You've gained benefits from practicing the poses and you want to let others know how to do the same. But how do you do that? You do have some options available to you. You can look around in your town or city for a good class or you can consider distance training.

So you want to learn how to become a yoga teacher with one of the masters? Well, where exactly would those masters be? If you're lucky they're in a town near you, but what if they're not? What if the person that you have your heart set on training with is located somewhere across the country, or completely out of the country for that matter? No one said that yoga training is just for the major players in the world. There are people all around the world who would like to become a yoga instructor. The great thing about distance education is that it gives you just this opportunity. There's no need to leave your family for extended periods of time, use up those precious few free minutes that you have left in your day, or even deal with a frustrating commute.

In these hard times money is of course an issue, and no one wants to be without it. People are concentrating on saving rather than spending and you should plan shelling out a couple thousand dollars for certification classes. And then there are the associated costs such as transport and appropriate attire. Yes, if you want to become a yoga teacher it's going to cost you...but it does not have to cost you an arm and a leg. Your expense for a distance course can be as little as a few hundred dollars, though you will miss the personal time with the instructors but you will have the opportunity of working in the comfort of your own home.

At one point it was only possible to become a yoga teacher through face to face classes. This is no longer the case. While yoga may be an ancient discipline, it has become a permanent fixture in our 21st century lives. As such, knowledge of the exercises can be handed down in increasingly varied ways. Distance courses are gaining in popularity because they can save time and money, and allow you to work at your own pace. They give people who may not have the opportunity to take a class otherwise the chance to get their certification. And there's no need to worry about support material. The use of instructional DVDs and even internet conferencing are fast becoming the norm rather than the exception.

With the technological advances of the last few years, instructors can now train their students on how to become a yoga teacher through various means including sending lesson plans through email or conversing through programs such as Skype. This ease of use can be both a good thing and a bad thing. On one hand, there is the issue of accessibility, but on the other there is a greater possibility of so-called 'fly-by-night' institutions opening their doors to an unsuspecting public. It is important that you do your research and look into each distance course closely to see if it is accredited and right for you.

The Three Best Dog Training Secrets Are Revealed

If you have been thinking that "breaking the dog's spirit" is the proper way to train your dog, you need to have some serious reconsideration. To be able to train your dog properly you will need to show the dog love to get his or her attention and respect. Every dog understands the power of positive reinforcement.

I use to compare the training of a dog with learning to ride a bike. Think back to when you first learned to ride a bike. You fell down a couple of times and it did hurt but it went over and eventually after much trial-and-error you learned how to ride a bike. It took some time too and teaching a dog how to behave properly will be quite time consuming as well.

The most important tool if you would like to train your dog yourself is time and patience. Another good investment might be a leach. When the dog does as he or she is supposed to do then you will reward the behavior with a little treat.

When the dog does not behave as he or she is supposed to, you will need to say something like "bad dog". Do not encourage the dog's bad behavior or you will have a harder task to teach the dog the proper behavior. It is just like raising a child, they have to learn that their actions will lead to some consequences. If they behave properly they will get rewarded, if not they will get corrected.

If your dog is afraid of something do not force the dog into it, try to find some way to enforce the dog's trust in you and encourage it by doing something playful to help the dog get over its psychological fears. A good way can be to feel relaxed and just try to enjoy the time that you and your dog spends together. Take a long walk or do some jogging together this will help to strengthen the band between you and your dog. This is especially the way to bond for big dogs.

Another good way to strengthen the bond with your dog might be to play with him or her in your own garden or in your apartment. Especially for small dogs this is a funny way to learn them how to behave properly.

The last and final way to train your dog, no matter what size he or she might have, is to go for a walk with other dog owners. It might be good for you as well as your dog, since you're both getting socialized with others.

Misconceptions About Circuit Strength Training

One of the biggest misconceptions about circuit strength training is that you can't build muscle when you combine aerobic activity with strength training. This is especially the case with men. It's no secret that men and women have different goals when they hit the gym, and while a woman may sign up for a yoga class or jump on the elliptical machine, men head straight for the weights. What most guys don't understand is that a circuit training workout is not an easy, fluff program, and if designed and done correctly can not only beef up muscle tone, but it can lean out the fat surrounding the mid section and make those difficult-to-get abdominal muscles pop!

The next misconception is for men and women alike. When it comes to strength circuit training there is usually a line drawn in the sand, between how much weight a man should use and how much weight a woman should use. This is a cyclical argument because the true answer has nothing to do with quantity of weight, just quality of how you use it. Quality movement is marked by the amount and duration of tensions that the muscle has to work against in any given workout. If you are lifting extremely heavy weights, but are speeding through the reps in order to get them done, you will lose form, lose muscle tensions time, and lose results.

The same theory needs to be applied to women when they circuit strength train. The truth is that women always gravitate toward light weights, and sometimes they tend to life much lighter than they should for fewer reps than is necessary for muscle response. Again, the tension time is the most important factor in making a circuit beneficial for you.

Additionally, since a circuit is known for its brief periods of rest between sets, somewhere between 10-15 seconds, your heart rate is constantly challenged, so while it has "aerobic components" woven into the framework of the exercise, it is not technically considered aerobic in nature. What men and woman commonly misunderstand is that the aerobic components of a circuit workout mimic that of traditional aerobic exercise, but is designed to create a low intensity, "fat-burning" workout in-between the strength training. The aerobic spurts of energy that are used in a circuit are not similar to logging some face time with the stair stepper because of the intensity of the heart-healthy activity. So, it is a part of the circuit to increase the challenge and to utilize stored energy sources in a short period of time, in order to eat up sugar and calories within the system and to challenge overall oxygen consumption.

Women tend to like the circuits for their aerobic components because those types of exercises seem to be more popular by woman, however if a circuit is done incorrectly you won't be in the aerobic zone long enough to produce the same effects. These effects, the negative side of aerobic training, that keep men away from the cardio room is that it has the propensity to raise cortisol levels in the body (which is when muscle tissue begins to get broken down.) 12minuterevolution.com Circuit strength training can benefit both men and women, and is a hybrid of some of the best training techniques that can be found in the fitness market.

One such program that uses circuit strength training as one of its training methods is the 12minuterevolution.com 12 Minute Revolution. This is a great program for anyone looking to lost fat and build lean muscle mass.

Teaching Hatha Yoga - How Long Should Warm-Ups Be?

There are many ceremonial aspects, within a Hatha Yoga class, which make up the entire class. These are necessary components such as: The greeting, bringing your presence into the room, rooting, mantra, mudra, Pranayama, warm- ups, Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutations), Asana, relaxation techniques, meditation, and the closing ceremony (which may end with a reading, Udgeeth Pranayama, Japa, Namaste, Thank You, a combination of these, or something else).

The value of warm-ups, before Asana (Yoga posture) practice, cannot be understated in Yoga, and in life. Warm-ups reduce the chance of injury to the practitioner. The time spent doing warm-ups can vary due to the purpose.

The age of the students, the time of day, the outside temperature, and the purpose of the warm-up, can be factors, which determine the time frame. When I teach a Chair Yoga class, the warm-ups may take 30 minutes or more because the median age in the class is 70 years of age.

In relation to this, and for safety's sake, warm-ups, before personal Yoga practice, exercise, or any sport, tend to be longer as we age. Morning warm-ups should be longer than evening, if we are on a "regular day time schedule" (rising in the morning and sleeping at night).

Muscles tend to contract as we sleep, so we should be careful not to strain them in the morning. The muscles also tend to tense up in the winter, therefore, the time of year and the region where you live can be a factor.

Finally, the purpose of the warm-up may also differ. Older students, who practice in Vinyasa or Power Yoga classes, should warm up, a little more, than younger students. Older students should be aware of pre-existing injuries and take care of them.

Become Stress Free

Now accepted as a legitimate approach to improving health, the psychological and psychiatric professions not only are allowing relaxation techniques to be generally employed but are encouraging their use in hospitals, particularly in relation to stress related disorders.

Stimuli, or situations that can trigger states of anxiety, are referred to as "stresses". These are many and varied and include for instance, the threat of job loss, marital disharmony, and dissatisfaction or frustration's with one's lifestyle or circumstances. It is generally known that anxiety affects about twice as many women as men.

Individual reactions to stress range from mild nervous and physical discomfort, muscular tension, chronic anxiety to acute panic attacks that involve physiological changes and often great discomfort. Anxiety also plays an important role in contributing to the cause of many psychosomatic illnesses. Its involvement in tension and migraine headaches, peptic ulcers, asthma, hypertension, gastrointestinal disorders and dermatological reactions has often been demonstrated.

Anxiety is associated with a heightened level of physiological activity in certain brain structures. Increased activity in the part of the brain which responds to one's awareness of a "threat" situation leads to a discharge of adrenalin. This in turn causes a dramatic increase in oxygen consumption, faster pulse rate and rate of breathing. Associated with these changes is perspiration in certain areas and tensing of the muscles. Symptoms of stress can also include palpitations, excessive sweating, nausea, weakness in the legs, butterflies in the stomach, an urgent need to urinate, dizziness, breathlessness, faintness and insomnia.

We need to know how to recognize early symptoms of stress and learn natural methods to reduce the problem. We need to learn how to relax. The science of Yoga offers both methods of physical and mental training.

Hatha Yoga basic instruction involves the art of relaxation and is taught in all Yoga schools. Various relaxation techniques are practiced, all emphasizing physical methods and voluntary control over the muscles, particularly of respiration. Research has shown specific breathing rhythms to be effective in inducing deep relaxation with its accompanying physiological changes and increased comfort on all levels of the psyche. In the state of relaxation many stress symptoms and negative personal reactions to life experiences are dissolved and replaced by pleasant feelings of inner harmony, greater psychological ease and acceptance of life.

Practicing mental relaxation and the art of meditation increases these benefits and our confidence grows as we find that we can govern our own health and state of mind by learning simple methods that release us from the bondage of old stress habits.
