Yogic Practice For Weight Loss

Weight Loss is a serious debate that numbers of articles are created from all walks of life. Nutritionists, Medics, Business panels, dress-makers and, even, Pizza houses now talk about "Foods & Facts", "Know your calories" and so on. People with deep love for life and human would suggest the best method available of all these - Yoga!

Yoga is not just what one sees on TV or YouTube or reads in "How to..." websites. It is not just flexing your muscle, or being in an uncomfortable posture. Yoga has got a better meaning than these. Yoga is for the oneness of ones body, mind and soul. At a higher level, Yoga enables one to achieve oneness with The Supreme. There are many Yogic techniques, specific to the need - some to concentrate on the mind, some for the soul and so on. But, eventually, any Yogic practice will influence all 3 elements of a human.

One of the Yogic practices that helps weight loss in a greater way is 'Hatha Yoga'. 'Hatha' literally means 'Hard'. In 'Hatha Yoga', one tunes the body & breath in unison such that the mind and soul come in harmony to that. A typical cycle - called 'Surya Namaskaram' or 'Salutations to Sun' has 12 or 24 steps in series. One not just bends and stretches the body, but controls the breath equally. One will realize on performing "Surya Namaskaram" that emptying and refilling the breath purifies the body and enhances the metabolic activity.

'Surya Namaskaram' shall be done so gently without any tremor created to the body. Breath is so important in a Yogic practice. Also, breath is the key element for proper metabolism. One needs more oxygen to burn energy and one should breathe the toxics completely out. In any other weight loss method, breathing is not highlighted as a key factor for weight loss. The importance of creating unison of different elements - body, mind and soul - with breath is the key to the success of Yoga as a weight loss method.

Though Yoga is for a completely different purpose, starting Yogic practice for weight loss is not wrong at all. Having understood the basic concept of Yoga, wherever one starts, with whatever is the motive, the ultimate result is achieved. In one another perspective, healthy mind is needed to lead a healthy life. Healthy life is built out of healthy habits. Healthy habits are out of good practices. And, thus, right fit and weight are achieved!!! Weight loss is not just about burning calories, but also about building the basics to sustain or maintain the needed weight. This can only be achieved with clear thought and unperturbed mind. Yoga is the only way for achieving that!

Start your Yogic practice under the guidance of a trained instructor or 'Guru'. Yoga is not method for weight loss, but the way of life!
