What is Exercise and What Does it Do For You?

Fitness training is the latest fad of the age. Wherever you look, you will see people engaged in some physical exercise or the other. Be it walking, cycling, swimming, or going to the gym; there is hardly any person who isn't health conscious in the world today. What is the reason for it? Perhaps because people are increasingly growing aware of the hazards of the hectic and speedy life that characterizes modern existence, or maybe due to the fact that fit, healthy and a good body is something that everyone craves for. Whatever be the reason, exercising and working out have become the top priority among majority of the world population.

What is Exercise?

You may wonder what exactly exercise is. What is making people so driven towards it? Contrary to popular belief, exercise can simply be defined as physical activity on a daily basis. Much of this physical activity has to be exhausting, i.e. it should involve significant exertion. This implies that working out in a gym or signing up for yoga classes do not only qualify as exercise. Even a brisk walk in the park or just climbing up stairs can well be considered as tiring physical activity. How do you know that the daily chores you are doing are good enough to be called exercise? How do you differentiate between light and heavy work? Following are a couple of points that may serve as a guideline to you:

If you have been working for about half an hour, doing something that involves physical movement of moderate intensity, it should ideally make you feel warmer, increase the rate of your heart beat so much so that you can feel your pulse rate and also make you gasp for breath. These three signs are enough to prove that you have just had a session of moderate exercise.

Increased rate of perspiration can be another important pointer. If you find yourself sweating profusely after a walk or maybe after working in your garden, you have had moderate exercise.

So, it is not always necessary that you join a gym or hire a fitness trainer if you want to reap the benefits of daily exercise. You can do so at on your own by:

Climbing up stairs instead of taking the elevator

Walking or jogging instead of driving your car

Doing domestic work faster than usual

Doing heavy work such as gardening, washing clothes manually and cleaning your room

Playing any sport that involves physical exertion like soccer, volleyball etc.

How is Exercise Beneficial?

Exercising, as widely known, can help you in more ways than one. Apart from helping you to lose weight and stay in good shape, it can ward off many chronic physical disorders like heart problems, diabetes, arthritis and even some kinds of cancer. Besides, daily workout can reduce stress to a considerable degree and hence keep you more energetic and ready to face your tough and hectic life. If you can supplement your day to day physical activities discussed above, with a fitness training regimen under a certified personal trainer, then it can be all the more useful.

So, don't waste anymore time. Always remember that health is wealth. Exercise and engage in daily physical activities and you will soon feel the difference!
