Meditation - Can it Be Accelerated?

Accelerated meditation first appeared in the 1970s with the discovery of binaural beats and the induction of alpha rhythm, but natural meditation has been around for at least 6,000 years and probably since the dawn of time. Religious figures such as Krishna, 5,000 years ago and Buddha, 2,554 years ago in northern India were clearly milestones for the practice of meditative mental focusing based on 'the mindfulness of breathing.' The early Chinese sages were also meditators and notable were Lao Tse and Confucius.

Psychology was applied in 1975 to the study of meditation and its physiological effects. These were found to be extremely beneficial, including the lowering of blood pressure and the reduction of levels of the harmful stress hormone, cortisol. The practice was studied exhaustively by Dr Herbert Benson of Harvard University and he identified something he called The Relaxation Response.

The writer has experienced both traditional meditation methods and modern forms of brain wave entrainment. Brain training clearly moves things along a lot faster. It puts you directly into the creative zone where ideas flow better and memory is accessed at what feels like lightning speed. You feel a glow of well being and your consciousness merges into a oneness with your unconscious or sub-conscious mind. This has been described as 'whole brain functioning', better integration and improved co-operation between the left and right cerebral hemispheres. Another descriptive tag is 'increased cohesion of brain functioning.'

Whatever it is, accelerated meditation is both beneficial and highly pleasurable. It is accompanied by the flow of endorphins and marked increases in creativity, well being and productivity. Meditation greatly reduces stress levels, inducing deep relaxation and furthering mind development.

It is, without a doubt the ultimate form of self improvement and I heartily recommend this blissful mind and body enhancement to every living human. Learning to meditate is possibly the best thing you can do with your time and the consequences are highly positive and productive for your life.
