How to Become a Yoga Teacher

Teaching is a noble profession and one that any individual should be proud to be involved in. It's even better when the topic you're teaching is one that you love. It's so much easier to convey your own enthusiasm regarding the subject matter when you really have a feel for it yourself. Maybe that's why so many yoga practitioners are looking into how to become a yoga instructor. You've gained benefits from practicing the poses and you want to let others know how to do the same. But how do you do that? You do have some options available to you. You can look around in your town or city for a good class or you can consider distance training.

So you want to learn how to become a yoga teacher with one of the masters? Well, where exactly would those masters be? If you're lucky they're in a town near you, but what if they're not? What if the person that you have your heart set on training with is located somewhere across the country, or completely out of the country for that matter? No one said that yoga training is just for the major players in the world. There are people all around the world who would like to become a yoga instructor. The great thing about distance education is that it gives you just this opportunity. There's no need to leave your family for extended periods of time, use up those precious few free minutes that you have left in your day, or even deal with a frustrating commute.

In these hard times money is of course an issue, and no one wants to be without it. People are concentrating on saving rather than spending and you should plan shelling out a couple thousand dollars for certification classes. And then there are the associated costs such as transport and appropriate attire. Yes, if you want to become a yoga teacher it's going to cost you...but it does not have to cost you an arm and a leg. Your expense for a distance course can be as little as a few hundred dollars, though you will miss the personal time with the instructors but you will have the opportunity of working in the comfort of your own home.

At one point it was only possible to become a yoga teacher through face to face classes. This is no longer the case. While yoga may be an ancient discipline, it has become a permanent fixture in our 21st century lives. As such, knowledge of the exercises can be handed down in increasingly varied ways. Distance courses are gaining in popularity because they can save time and money, and allow you to work at your own pace. They give people who may not have the opportunity to take a class otherwise the chance to get their certification. And there's no need to worry about support material. The use of instructional DVDs and even internet conferencing are fast becoming the norm rather than the exception.

With the technological advances of the last few years, instructors can now train their students on how to become a yoga teacher through various means including sending lesson plans through email or conversing through programs such as Skype. This ease of use can be both a good thing and a bad thing. On one hand, there is the issue of accessibility, but on the other there is a greater possibility of so-called 'fly-by-night' institutions opening their doors to an unsuspecting public. It is important that you do your research and look into each distance course closely to see if it is accredited and right for you.
