Training for Counselors

There are many types of training for counselors. Not only there are basic training programs that cover the most basic of counseling concepts, there are more in-depth programs for specific training in a variety of different counseling types. Whether you are already a counselor or preparing to become a counselor, there are a variety of extra training programs so you can find your niche in the counseling field. The different types of counseling are many and may include:

general psychotherapy
marriage and family counseling
career and business counseling
rehabilitation and mental health counseling
substance abuse counseling
anger management
sexual abuse counseling
feminist therapy
Internal Family Systems therapy
grief counseling
art, music and narrative therapies
hypnosis
journal counseling
holistic and yoga therapies

relational, relationship and recovery counseling

The above list could continue for miles. There really is no limit to the niches you can explore and learn as a counselor or counselor in training. Wherever you find your niche, you can be a great counselor by choosing a good training program to help you learn and get you certified in that niche of counseling you want.

As you study and learn the basics and in-depth concepts of counseling, you will find different areas in which you would enjoy working. Whether it be with children, adults, family units, addicts or sexual abuse survivors, your counseling career can be rewarding and should be a continuing learning experience as your career unfolds. Training programs help keep counselors up to date on new styles and concepts in counseling and help with offering continued education.
