Raja Yoga Meditation - An Effective Way To Heal The Body

Meditation looks obscure and odd to an untrained eye, and to someone who is not aware of what meditation is meditation seems like a shaggy dog story - useless and a big waste of time. Understandably, meditation is not something that someone easily decides to learn. At the same time, it is not something you easily learn. Regardless though, meditation has been with us for centuries and continues to live strong while slowly attracting more and more believers. There are a lot of meditation forms, styles, and techniques. Among which is the raja yoga meditation.

Meditation as a whole uses the soothing power of repetition. The basic idea of meditation is to focus on one's breath and repeating a word or a phrase (a mantra) while disregarding other thoughts. These actions bring a relaxation response to the body. This pure sense relaxation that the body gets from meditation brings wonders to the body - it alleviates anxiety, stress, chronic pain, and improves heart health among many others.

"The relaxation response (from meditation) helps decrease metabolism, lowers blood pressure, and improves heart rate, breathing, and brain waves," according to Herbert Benson, MD, founder of the Mind/Body Institute at Harvard Medical School's Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Researching on the health benefits of meditation for years, Dr. Benson has found scientific evidence that meditation does work.

Raja yoga meditation concentrates on both the self and the mind. And because the mind is one of the most powerful and creative organs in the body, its influence in the body is extravagant. Notwithstanding any ailments, negativity, and stressors that the universe throws at you, with the proper meditation training, you will be able to rise above all of them and enjoy a quiet, peaceful mind and soul.

Raja yoga meditation like any other meditation is said to be most effective when done daily. 15 minutes each morning of pure serenity, relaxing mental exercises and soft repeated chants will give your body all the energy and positive liveliness it needs throughout the course of the day. Both beneficial to the mind and the body itself, practicing meditation will keep you focused and eventually bring good healthy to your body.

Although meditation and its proper usage takes time and practice to perfect, learning it proves to be beneficial and helpful not just in a person's daily living but more important in his health as well. Regular and continuous proper meditation techniques such as the raja yoga meditation will bring peace to both mind and body... without any doubt.
