3 Best Abdominals Workout

Getting the six pack abs you've always dreamed about involves more than doing standard crunches until you feel the burn. To effectively train your core, you need to engage it in movement beyond strengthening exercises. To get the most out of your abdominals workout, consider taking part in the following exercise programs:

1. Ballet

Trust me on this one - ballet is one of the best core strengthening programs around, and the increase in adult ballet classes means you don't need to worry about prancing around in front of five-year-olds in pink tutus. Professional football players have turned to ballet practice for years as a way to increase their strength and agility, and if they can get past the stigma and benefit from this workout, so can you. To get started, check to see if your local gym offers any ballet classes, or if there are any dance studios in your area that offer adult only classes. Most are happy to work with you - no matter how flexible you may or may not be - and tights are optional in most cases.

2. Yoga

If you've ever thought of yoga as a peaceful, spiritual activity, think again. It takes some serious core muscles to be able to hold most yoga poses - called asanas - so, in the beginning; you'll feel anything but serene. However, if you're willing to stick with a regular yoga practice, you'll find yourself developing stronger all around muscles and a greater level of cardiovascular fitness. But before you sign up for a class, be aware that there are many different styles of yoga, and not all of them are suitable for beginners. Hatha yoga - or gentle yoga - is a great type to start with, so look around to see if your gym or any yoga studios in your area offer this type of class.

3. Pilates

Pilates was actually created as a method of strengthening core muscles, so it's a great activity to take part in if your goal is a set of six pack abs. Classes typically last between an hour and an hour and a half, during which time you'll go through a series of strengthening moves, most of which focus on engaging the core muscles. Throughout the class, you'll learn more about keeping your body in proper alignment to help prevent injury, which can be very helpful if you're a beginning exerciser in search of six pack abs. Most gyms offer beginning Pilates classes, as do many school and community recreational activity programs. Check it out - Pilates will definitely help you achieve your goals of having a tight, sexy mid-section and a set of six pack abs.
