Thoughts on the Male Muscle Workout

The male muscle workout has taken on many, many forms over the years, and those of you who keep up with every new strategy to build muscle mass and tone are to be commended. I can't do it. I neither really like the people who spend the majority amount of their time in gyms nor have the patience to work through an entire weight-training regimen designed for building body mass. I prefer a more interactive approach to fitness, and so trying to sit me in a room full of sweaty guys lifting weights is not something you'll see me do in the near future. For those of you who like a bunch of grunting gyms, more power to you.

On the other hand, there are more interactive ways to build body mass. For instance, most martial arts styles have a component of bodybuilding that involve more than just pumping iron. While it's true that many of the more isometric workouts are still solo, they're fast and easy to do. Push-ups, pull-ups and crunches are an easy, fast way to build up muscle mass. Right after you've done with your fifty push-ups and five hundred crunches, you can stretch and then hit the fighting mat.

I'm also a proponent of low-impact movement work, which are essentially dance and yoga styles that are geared toward a more comprehensive body-training approach. Yoga participation builds stamina, strength and tone and, with the right instructor, can be done without having to feel like you're surrounded by a bunch of new age frauds.

Isometric exercises such as the basic calisthenics mentioned or the more interactive, instructor-based training sessions like martial arts or happinesslifetime.com yoga training, are all good basic starting points for you in your goal to get yourself in better shape and build stronger, suppler, and more defined muscles.
