Let's Stretch!

As we age, our muscles tighten and range of motion in the joints can decrease. This can have a negative effect on active lifestyles and even hinder day-to-day, normal motions. Tasks that used to be simple, such as zipping up a dress might become rather difficult. A regular stretching program can help lengthen your muscles and make daily living activities easier.

Everyone can learn to stretch, regardless of age or flexibility. Stretching should be a part of your daily routine, whether you exercise or not. Simple stretches done while sitting down, watching telly, or waiting for a bus. If you are performing strength training exercises, you can stretch in between sets. It feels good and prevent muscle shortening!

It does not have to involve a huge time commitment, but stretching can end up giving you huge results! Here are just a few of the benefits you can expect from a regular stretching program:

o Reduced muscle tension

o Injury prevention

o Increased range of movement in the joints

o Enhanced muscular coordination

o Increased circulation of the blood to various parts of the body

o Increased energy levels (resulting from increased circulation)

o Delayed onset of muscle fatigue

o Enhanced performance in daily life, sports, or other physical activity

o Improved posture

o Mental relaxation

o Added variety, enjoyment, and a sense of satisfaction with your exercise program

Stretching often neglected is important for all of us. One of the greatest benefits of stretching is that you're able to increase the length of both your muscles and tendons. Good muscles' flexibility leads to an increased range of movement in your joints which plays big part in avoiding injuries. Stretching can help to prevent an injury by promoting recovery and decreasing soreness, and ensures that your muscles and tendons are in good working order. The more conditioned and supple your muscles and tendons are, the better they can handle the rigors of sport and exercise.

Stretching comes naturally to all of us. You might notice that if you have been sitting in a particular position for a long time, you stretch unconsciously. It feels good! In addition to the latter, doing regular stretching exercises will increase your flexibility and joint movement.
